For years, I have been searching to no avail, to find the tartan pattern that belonged to my grandfather’s Scottish clan. He was born in the 1800’s in Edinburgh. A few years ago, I was able to find that the name Leith actually went under the clan of Hay. And I found the tartan! About a month ago, I contacted a lovely lady, Cecilia Leibovitz... to see if she could make a necklace using the tartan and you can see her magnificent work below!! I was moved to tears!! Thank you Ceci!!
This is one of two custom memorial or mourning necklaces created for two daughters who lost their mother. The pieces were commissioned by the childhood best friend of the girls' mother, using a blouse that had belonged to her. It was requested that a fabric strip be made into a charm to add on along with the Pendant; for this I used a strip of silk, a strip of lace that had been used to make clothing for their Cabbage Patch dolls in childhood, and a strip of the blouse material.
I made nine necklaces for a talented retired lace designer who worked for the Schiffli Lace company for over forty years, starting in the 1940s; they were made from original Schiffli lace, which is the first machine made lace ever. What a meaningful and tangible way to share the history of his work with his children and grandchildren. I so enjoyed making this jewelry.
"Ceci is an endlessly talented jewelry maker, visionary and a beautiful soul too! She created this for me from my wedding dress lace and every time I wear it I get to wear my wedding dress again. If you have a special fabric that you want turned into a beautiful piece of jewelry I highly suggest you get in touch with her." -Johanna, Vermont
This memory necklace was made with simple white bridal fabric for a client that did not have lace on her wedding dress. A gold heart and gold arrow charm were added to signify marriage. Such a clean and elegant look.

"I cannot believe how gorgeous this is💗...and how fast you were able to make it!!!!!.....this is absolutely perfect, I wouldn't change a thing about it." -Jessica, Vermont This custom necklace was made in memory of Jess' father, with a button and swatch from his shirt. It was given as a gift to her grandmother. Layered over the fabric is vintage Irish lace from my collection. Jess says for anyone who is having a memory necklace made, she highly recommends adding a button.
From a husband, to his wife, for their 13th February wedding anniversary. Lace is the traditional gift for this year. The bridesmaids wore red so he requested red silk as an underlayer base for the lace.
